Many millennials, such as myself are renting their place nowadays. Let’s face it, it’s not because of all the avocado toasts we are eating, neither is our love for flat whites and boozy brunches. Without going into the reasons why our generation is mostly renting, let’s talk about how to upgrade your living room on a budget.
There was a time when I thought that I can’t decorate my rental the way I want to because I couldn’t justify the money spent on a temporary flat, where I might be only for a year.
Now, five years after living in the same place, I think differently. It is incredibly important to have a space where you can feel at home, one that feels like yours. Especially, after two years of staying at home, and the world getting used to this new normal, where we spend more time in our home than ever, it is justified to spend some money to make that space your own, and decorate it the way you want to.
My goal is to show you how to make your living room look insta-worthy without breaking the bank.
Create a gallery wall
Finding the art that suits both your and your home’s style can be tricky, and let’s face it, pricey. However, it can make a real difference to how your living room feels, and elevate the whole look of your apartment. This minimalist wall art is perfect if you’re aiming for a modern look with earthy tones.
And if you like to bring more colours to your place, while still keeping a modern feel, then the below option could work for you. You can always put your own pictures in the frames as well. Six frames for this price is still a bargain. So channel your inner art curator, and create your own gallery wall. You can find the frames and art here.
Use wooden furniture, and baskets to create a more natural look
Wooden furniture is not only very “in” right now, but it’s usually sturdy and of good quality. It can be pricy, but you can find some affordable, and
beautiful pieces out there that can elevate the look of your living room. And often, just a small wooden detail can go a long way to create that natural, but modern look. Like with this coffee table.
If you are looking to make a smaller change first, you can start with woven storage baskets. They are great for organising while bringing a more natural feel to your living room. Here is a link to an affordable woven storage basket that you can use for organising or keeping plants in it.
Plants
If you are truly a millennial, buying plants is your therapy, so I might not even have to tell you that they will make your place a hundred times better. However, what will give you that extra feel is a great pot for your plant. My personal favourite is an elevated wooden plant stand with a white pot.
Add an accent piece to the room
Whether it’s a cosy armchair, a rustic table, or a unique floor lamp, an accent piece can have a big impact. Accent pieces work best in a minimalist environment, so try to keep your living room clean, organised and without clutter, if you are looking to introduce accent furniture. These can be more of an investment, but if you find the right pieces, you can still find yourself a bargain, and stay within a budget.
Thanks for your blog, nice to read. Do not stop.
